Mario started off as Jumpman in Donkey Kong, a carpenter saving his girlfriend from a gorilla, before someone decided, “Hey, let’s make him a plumber and throw him in sewers fighting turtles!” In 1983,
he teamed up with his brother Luigi, smashing bricks, chomping mushrooms, and constantly rescuing Princess Peach, who seems to enjoy getting kidnapped by a giant turtle-dragon. Mario’s been running, jumping, and smashing his way through video game history ever since—proving that sometimes all you need to be a hero is a mustache, some questionable plant-based power-ups, and a complete lack of workplace safety standards.
Now, what has all this got to do with a pair of mice and a game called Super Twins slot from Backseat Gaming? Well, I’m pretty sure the sneaky gals and guys at Backseat used Super Mario as inspiration for this, their newest slot. You’ll have to tell me if you agree.
Did some say power-ups?
Landing three mushroom scatters during a base game spin activates a round of free spins. Prior to your round of free spins starting, you’ll get to spin the super wheel. The super wheel sets the number of free spins and the global multiplier. At the start of each bonus round, players spin the super wheel to determine the initial conditions. The wheel is split into two parts: one gives a global multiplier ranging from two to one hundred, while the other offers between five and twenty free spins.
During a round of free spins, any wild symbols that land will float and change positions on the reels with every spin. If three mushroom scatters appear again during the round, the super wheel spins once more to award additional free spins and another multiplier, which is added to the previous one. Only one type of scatter symbol can appear on the reels at a time.
When three star scatter symbols land during a base game spin, the staying stuck bonus is triggered. As before, the super wheel determines the number of free spins and the global multiplier. In this feature, wild symbols become sticky, staying in place until the end of the bonus round. Hitting three star scatter symbols during the bonus will trigger the super wheel again, giving extra spins and a new multiplier that adds to the existing value. Like the floating free bonus, only one type of scatter symbol can appear at once.
Players can also choose to buy their way into bonuses with several options available. The bonus hunt feature spins cost three times the bet, increasing the chance of triggering a bonus by five times. The super wheel feature spins cost twenty times the bet and can award up to twenty wilds and a multiplier of up to one hundred on a single spin. The super-duper wheel feature spins, costing one hundred times the bet, grant up to twenty wilds, a multiplier of up to one hundred, and respins while the wilds remain on the reels. Additionally, players can buy their way directly into the floating free bonus for one hundred times the bet or the staying stuck bonus for two hundred times the bet.
Is Super Twins slot cute or a little kitsch?
Super Twins offers a betting range from $0.10 to $25, making it accessible for players of all budgets. With a maximum win potential of $312,500 and a hefty multiplier of 12,500x, it’s packed with excitement for those chasing big payouts. The game features high volatility, meaning wins might be less frequent but can be substantial when they hit. The slot offers an RTP of 96.32%.
Unlike Super Mario Bros, I don’t think the Super Twins slot can expected to have a several-decades-long legacy ahead. The slot is cute, it has some fun graphics, and the bonus features with that super wheel are nothing to be disappointed about. There’s very little original or striking about it, though. It feels like just another slot in a sea of slots. I give the Super Twins slot a seven out of ten.If you’re looking for a few other Backseat Gaming slots to try out, I recommend Space Zoo and Old Gun.
