Why’d the Chicky Run Across the Road?

 By Colin Rodgers

The “Why did the chicken cross the road?” joke? Oh, that masterpiece of comedy from the 1840s where the punchline is about as exciting as boiled cabbage: “To get to the other side.” Yeah, because apparently, chickens have existential road-crossing crises too. It’s the granddaddy of anti-jokes—setting you up for something witty and delivering a punchline flatter than your phone battery at 2%.

While the original joke is about as funny as a car crash, over the more than a century since it was first created, all manner of variations of the joke have found real humor in the absurdity. And if that’s possible, it’s surely possible to take the basic premise and turn it into a ridiculous crash game, no? Well, that’s pretty much what PG Soft has done with its newest casual game, Chicky Run.

Look both ways before crossing

Chicky Run is about as simple a game as they come. You start off by selecting how much you want to bet and then hitting Start. You are then given the choice of whether your chicken goes left or right to avoid a speedy car bearing toward it.

If you guess correctly, you win. You then have the choice to either risk it all and play again for a larger win or to cash out and take what you’ve got. You can gamble up to five times for a maximum multiplier of 30.72x your bet.

There’s also the Extra Coins feature. If you select this in the Bet Options window, it will add a little extra to your bet and give you a shot at collecting some instant win gold coins.

Is Chicky Run worth crossing a busy street?

Chicky Run features a betting range from $0.20 to $200, allowing for both casual and high-stakes players to enjoy the game. It offers a maximum win of $6,144 with a 30.72x multiplier, providing decent payout potential. The game’s low volatility ensures frequent but smaller wins, making it ideal for those who prefer a steady flow of rewards. The game offers an RTP of 96%.

Sometimes I just want something dead simple and super fun. Chicky Run is a perfect example of that kind of game. It’s simple and absolutely packed full of character and fun. All the details from the different chickens that join you as you get higher up the multiplier ladder to the car that inevitably runs your chickens over. It’s all great. Chicky Run gets a solid nine out of ten.
